Radio and podcast episode for Earshot
ABC Radio National 2020

Chinese-Australia singer, Rainbow Chan, returns to her mother’s village in Hong Kong. She meets some charismatic grannies who sing surprisingly subversive and feminist protest songs, known as bridal laments. Sung in Weitou, an endangered indigenous language, they speak of a life of submission and the importance of female camaraderie.
